Communication & Culture
Department-wide communication
The Department of Pediatrics communicates department-wide to members in a couple of different ways.
G-Groups
The department uses the university-approved Google Groups, or G-Groups, as a way to build lists of email addresses and send mass email. (Please note, Google Groups is not HIPAA-approved.) The department manages a small number of department-wide Google Groups. Teams and divisions within the department may create and manage their own Google Groups.
E-newsletters
The communications team builds and sends two regular emails on behalf of department leadership:
- Milestones — Mails monthly in the middle of the month. This e-newsletter includes good news and accolades appropriate for a general public audience. Read the Milestones archive. Division chiefs are responsible for alerting the communications team about division news, events, and accolades. Email your ideas to news@pediatrics.wisc.edu. The communications team also sends a monthly reminder asking division chiefs for submissions to Milestones.
- Pediatrics News Brief — Distributed every other Friday. This e-newsletter includes internal department news and events. Find the Pediatrics News Brief archive on the intranet homepage under News and Updates. Submit a news item for Pediatrics News Brief.
The department’s professional development team manages department-wide communication related to Pediatrics Grand Rounds and other professional development and learning opportunities.
Division communication
Each division determines its own communication needs, with some sending weekly or monthly e-newsletters of their own that include division-specific news. GPAM’s “Weekly Whistle” is an example of a weekly division e-newsletter. Others use Google Groups and Outlook emails to keep division members up-to-date on division information.
